Use the Mini Converter UpDownCross HD from Blackmagic Design to automatically cross-convert between any SD and HD video format, with support for signals up to 1080p60. The converter incorporates one 3G/HD/SD-SDI input, two 3G/HD/SD-SDI outputs and one loop-through output, one HDMI input, and one HDMI output. This versatile converter supports scaling for computer DVI resolutions via its HDMI input, enabling you to connect HDMI computers to SDI projectors. Features include automatic signal detection, reference in, reclocking, and audio delay for A/V sync. Settings can be easily changed using the diagrammed function switches, or via the OS X/Windows-compatible converter software. This compact converter features a sturdy metal housing, and includes a 12V universal power supply with a locking connection to prevent accidental disconnection.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brian Makes Videos from The box you've all been waiting for Everybody who works with video should have one or two of these in their kit. It's a dead simple Up/Down/Cross converter which means that no matter what kind of video signal you input, it will output the resolution and frame rate you need. Everything you could imagine up to 1080p60. There's about a frame or two delay if you're deinterlacing a signal but it's pretty darn acceptable. My only gripes are: a hot-shoe / screw mount would have been nice; the DC barrel pin is a little bigger than the standard 2.1mm so you'll need to get creative if you want to use your own power distribution; USB-C power would have been nice (it's config only); no alt SDI input like other BMD mini converters so if you lose your signal, it's game over.
Still it's the swiss army knife of converters at a price that is probably making AJA and Decimator sick to their stomachs. Rated 2 out of 5 by Ryland from No go for 1080p 60 plus other issues.bummer I use decimator md-hx to convert sources for our live switching all the time.? No issues ever.?? These wouldn't work with my 1080p 60 sources.? SDI returned a purple tinted image.? HDMI in wouldn't work either.? The only way I got it to 'work' was outputting camera at 720p through an hdmi to sdi converter then into the sdi input.?
Bad results though. I think these are still too new and have kinks in them.? (june 2018).? Hopefully they can get them worked. Sources tested with.Marshall cv502 sdi output.??Zcam e1 hdmi output.?
And also Panasonic GH4 hdmi output. Rated 2 out of 5 by Tom from Disappointed I bought three of the new up-down-cross mini converters on the recommendation?of Blackmagic representatives?at NAB. I am using three GoPro Hereo?5 blacks in a truck to do driving live shots and needed to convert them to 1080i.?The converters won't recognize?the GoPro's as a valid video input. I talked to Blackmagic tech support?and they could not tell me why it did not work and suggested?I reach out to GoPro. The HDMI port on the GoPro's are putting out 1080p, which the converter is supposed to work with.
What video output are you using from the camera? This device will convert to and from SDI/HDMI which it nice but what makes this device great are the dip switches that allow you to specify frame rate and resolution, for me it was 1080i @59.94 for our video switcher. I had trouble with the auto detect converters so this feature was a must have for my situation. From what I can find online, most laparoscopy cameras have an HDMI output already so in theory, you should be able to go direct HDMI into a BlackMagic Shuttle without any conversion.
If the camera is sending a funky resolution/fps then I would imagine you could convert HDMI to HDMI and use the dip switches to determine the resolution and frame rate that's sent to the Shuttle. Hope my ramblings are helpful. Best of luck!
The Blackmagic Design ATEM Studio Converter is the ideal partner for the ATEM Camera Converter. Connect up to four Camera Converters via optical fiber up to 28 miles away with bi-directional video plus tally and talkback! Connect your ATEM switcher program output to the ATEM Studio Converter and this is distributed to the four Camera Converters. Multiple Studio converters can be cascaded together when more than 4 cameras are needed.
Studio converter can also be used as four independent SDI or Fiber to HDMI converters and four independent simultaneous SDI to Optical and Optical to SDI converters! In the box:.
ATEM Studio Converter. Software CD ATEM Studio Converter Features. 4 built in optical fiber SDI converters, one for each camera feed up to 28 miles away. Optical fiber converters to 3G-SDI and de embedded balanced analog XLR stereo audio out. Global SDI input for sending program feed to all optical outputs. Microphone and headphone connections for commonly available general aviation style headsets.
Built in talkback includes AES/EBU loops on rear for expanding to extra ATEM Studio Converters. Elegant machined metal compact 1 rack unit design allows portable use. Includes front panel talkback mic, speaker, headset connections and talkback buttons. Fully compatible with ATEM Camera Converters or other types of SDI optical fiber converters. Supports 6G-SDI so allows updating to Ultra HD when by swapping the SFP style optical modules. Upgraded Model This upgraded model (upgraded in Q2 2013) includes a dramatically upgraded industrial design with an elegant machined metal front panel that includes controls and connections to manage talkback, as well as built in power supply, eliminating the external power 'brick' used on the older model. This new model includes common connectors such as balanced analog XLR and BNC connections, so features connections more commonly used in live production systems.
There's also a 12V DC input for redundant power supply operation. Ready for Ultra HD & 4K The ATEM Studio Converter also features 6G-SDI to allow Ultra HD support in the future.
Currently there are no optical fiber models available for 6G-SDI support, however this new model has all the technology required for Ultra HD and will be able to be upgraded by the customer when optical fiber modules are available that support 6 Gb/s speeds and Ultra HD. Designed for the Studio The ATEM Studio Converter is designed to fit into your equipment rack and has 4 separate optical fiber connections.
The optical fiber signal is converted back to SDI video and analog audio outputs for connecting each camera to your switcher. Program feeds with talkback and tally are sent to each connected camera.
The ATEM Studio Converter's rack mount design has an elegant aluminum front panel, featuring push to talk buttons for talkback communication, plus microphone and headphone connections. There is a built in speaker and volume control so you can also monitor talkback channels in a control room environment.
More Headset Options The ATEM Studio Converter also includes the use of general aviation style headsets for talkback. This eliminates the high cost of talkback headsets for television production, while at the same time allows a much more robust headset than computer type headsets. Aviation headsets for general aviation are extremely common and range from a few hundred dollars and up, depending on the features required. They support extremely good quality noise cancellation and are available from multiple manufacturers and stores worldwide.
Aviation headsets are extremely robust with industrial strength connections that are virtually impossible to break, so are much better suited to the often hostile environments found in live television production. Highest Quality Connections ATEM Studio Converter has 4 bi-directional fiber converters that convert each camera feed from optical fiber to SDI and output balanced analog audio on XLR connectors. Also included is loop program SDI in, plus AES/EBU microphone and headphone loops that let you link multiple ATEM Studio Converters.
Smart Software Blackmagic Design's Converter Utility Software lets you quickly set up converter functions, including camera numbers and audio levels. The utility software also lets you update your ATEM Converters with the latest firmware via a USB connection on each converter. This means you can download firmware updates to add new features or support for new video formats. Converter Utility Software is available for both Mac OS X and Windows.
